SOUTH ISLAND

New Zealand has a unique and dynamic culture. The culture of its indigenous Māori people affects the language, the arts, and even the accents of all New Zealanders. Their place in the South Pacific, and their love of the outdoors, sport, and the arts make New Zealanders and their culture unique in the world.

Though a diverse and multicultural people, there are many qualities, including friendliness, individuality, invention and self-reliance, that you’ll find in most New Zealanders. It’s our national character!

Queenstown: Sensational in any season

Queenstown is a vibrant, cosmopolitan community hidden in the rugged heart of New Zealand’s South Island. The waters of Lake Wakatipu, 82km long and the third largest in the country, impart an aura of serenity to the town and provide a stunning, panoramic outlook for the bars and restaurants that cluster along its foreshore. Guarded against the outside world by the imposing, craggy outline of The Remarkables, Queenstown is a blend of upmarket restaurants, bars, retail outlets and leisure activities surrounded by the raw beauty of the South Island. Ultimately, however it’s the majesty of the mountains, the broad blue reach of the lake and clear, sharp air which beckon and overwhelm the visitor to this unique township. During winter Queenstown is a haven for those that love the adrenalin snow sports and in the warmer months tramping through the majestic mountain ranges is very popular.
